Jordan Harris winemaker at Virginia-based Tarara Winery graduated from NC’s Winery and Viticulture Technician program in 2004 and was a Premier’s Award winner in 2008.
Accolades are pouring in for NC grad Jordan Harris.
Harris who is a winemaker and general manager at Tarara Winery in Leesburg Virginia was recently named Top 40 Under 40 America’s Tastemakers by Wine Enthusiast magazine.
“While many of Virginia’s vintners are concentrating their efforts on the sure sellers—namely Bordeaux-style blends Chardonnay and the state’s signature grape Viognier— Harris champions varieties that are oft overlooked in the Commonwealth” states the article in Wine Enthusiast Magazine. “Pushing the boundaries of his blends Harris is blazing trails in the state with bottlings like his 2010 #SocialSecret a heavy-hitting hodgepodge of Tannat Petit Verdot and Pinotage; and his 2010 Honah Lee White a sapid mix of Viognier Roussanne and Petit Manseng.”
Harris said couldn’t be happier about being mentioned within such a prestigious publication.
“It is pretty wild to be lumped with these professionals from world famous wine regions and wineries as well as some of the top hospitality people in the U.S.A.” he said.
Harris noted that the news came on the heels of three of Tarara’s wines were rated by Wine Enthusiast at 90 points.
“It was the first time that Wine Enthusiast had ever rated a Virginia wine 90 points and we had three of the seven that achieved this score” he said.
A graduate of NC’s Winemaker and Viticulture Technician program (2004) Harris was also a Premier’s Award winner in 2008. He traces the roots to his success back to NC.
“My time at NC not only prepared me but it also launched my career. Without going to NC I would never have had the success in the real world that I do today” said Harris. “Those I learned from and worked with at the College truly cared about the success of the students and would do everything in their power to ensure they are not only ready for their career but ready to excel.
“The staff members at NC help to drive students not only through their in-depth knowledge but through building relationships that will assist them in their entire careers and beyond.”
